Power BI: where to start when the board asks for a dashboard
Before choosing visuals, decide which questions the dashboard must answer, and make sure the data source can support those answers.

Many Power BI projects start at the end. The layout is chosen, the palette is agreed, and only then does anyone think about the data. The usual result is a beautiful dashboard the board opens once and never returns to.
The approach that works starts somewhere else: with the critical questions leadership needs answered every month. That list defines the data model, the sources and, only at the very end, the visuals.
Without that discipline, what you produce is decoration, not decision support.
